Intentionality is an evolved trait of many higher order animals, a product of a cerebral cortex that allows for cognitive feedback. Due to related psychological mechanisms, such as a proximity detector (that allows us to spot potential predators nearby), we have incorrectly projected intentionality outwards where it doesn't exist. As far as we can actually see, only beings with physical brains have any kind of intentionality at all. <i>There is a huge void in spirituality that I think people are grappling with. There is more of an emptiness, depression and people not excited about the future.</i> I think you are simply noticing the human condition. The US has been through a long recession, and that wears on people's optimism. However, there is nothing in recent research to suggest any significant increase in depression or ennui...for example, the number of suicides has not increased (except in the military, which is more about untreated and misused soldiers). <i>I think I have a fair amount of intuition but cannnot name what is going on.</i> I suspect that this is more about you than about other people. It is entirely possible that your state of mind, which sounds somewhat depressed, is coloring your interpretation of the world. I strongly recommend paying a visit to a good psychotherapist. I will have to do more research and also read what the people in your article you have referred to have to say on this topic. I just watched, "What the Bleep Do You know" Intentionally was mentioned as one of our purposes on this earth. There has been a huge shift in consciousness in the universe in the past 4 years or so. I cannot figure it out and have lost my intention. There is a huge void in spirituality that I think people are grappling with.
